Lochalsh Healthcare Centre
photo credit: Skye ImagesLochalsh Healthcare Centre, Kyle of LochalshThis new 1400sqm facility was built to provide GP, Dental and Community Health services for the population of Lochalsh and South Skye in the Wester Ross Region. Kyle of Lochalsh is a town made of buildings of diverse types and scales and the healthcare centre was designed to fit within this mixture of structures and to act as a link between the varying scales. The use of vernacular materials (a mix of timber cladding and rendered blockwork) and massing was utilised to achieve this. The long narrow shape of the building recalls the shape of other nearby buildings and structures in the town such as the train station and pier.
