In common with most practices in the North of Scotland and Islands chapter of the RIAS, we do a lot of housing work.

These include new development schemes for private or public sector clients, new houses for individual clients or extensions and renovations to existing houses.

The Skye Office has developed a particular specialism for new houses in the Countryside, achieving recognition in the APRS Award 1992 for a new house at Gesto and having work featured in a wide variety of books, periodicals and publications.

In 1997, a new house at Ebost was voted by readers of 'Country Living' magazine as the best new house in the Scottish countryside.

Other houses have appeared in 'Country Life', 'The Times', 'Tomorrow's Architectural Heritage' and the new 'National Policy for Architecture' published by the Scottish Executive.

During 1997, the Skye Office was one of only 24 practices throughout Scotland, chosen and listed by the UK based magazine 'Perspectives in Architecture' as a centre of excellence in Design.

Wittets timber-framed houses in the Countryside have also been featured in Government publications such as Planning Advice Note 36, 'Fields of Vision' and 'Timber framed houses in the Scottish Countryside', in many newspapers and local Government Design Guides.

Our policy is simple: Don't design anything in the Countryside that an Artist wouldn't want to paint!
