Wittets is thought to be one of the oldest architectural practices in Scotland, descended from George Robertson of Elgin, who started to practice there in 1792.

It is fitting, therefore, that the company can offer expertise in conservation of listed and ancient buildings.

Last year, the RIAS awarded Alasdair Alldridge accreditation at Level 2 in the RIAS Conservation Accreditation scheme. This meets the requirements normally laid down by Historic Scotland and other conservation bodies regarding the training and skill of project architects for grant-assisted projects.

In 2001, the acclaimed renovation of the National Trust for Scotland's Balmacara Square development was completed. Wittets led a design team that included archaeological survey, lime-point and lime harl work, conservation of stonework and the recreation of the pond, dam and laide at old Balmacara.

Over the years, many dozens of listed buildings have been conserved or repaired. Currently the Company is working on proposals to conserve Raasay House.

Our conservation work is based on special skills, technical knowledge, applied research and respect for the building's essential attributes. We do not encourage conjectural restoration.
